Book Review: Iron Flame
Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros was an intense, emotional rollercoaster. Picking up right where Fourth Wing left off, I too started reading Iron Flame the same day I finished Fourth Wing.
The stakes are even higher, and Violet is thrown into even more brutal challenges at Basgiath War College. I loved seeing her growth and the difference between the two books. She’s stronger, more determined, but still vulnerable in a way that makes her so relatable. The tension between her and Xaden I’ll admit, sometimes frustrated me with their miscommunication. The action was relentless, and while I loved the fast pace, there were moments where I wished we could slow down and breathe. I found myself having to recall what had happened in some moments because it felt like they went by so quickly and my brain couldn’t keep up.
The world-building expanded in exciting ways, especially with the dragons, but at times it did feel a bit overwhelming with all the new elements introduced. That said, I was completely immersed in the story, and the twists absolutely gutted me in the best way.
Did I prefer it to Fourth Wing? No but it was close and the twists in Iron Flame were brilliant. If you loved Fourth Wing, you’ll definitely want to dive into Iron Flame.
