Book Review: A Court of Mist and Fury
After a slow start with A Court of Thorns and Roses, I wasn’t sure what to expect from its sequel, but everyone I knew who had read it had told me to keep going. And I’m so glad they did because A Court of Mist and Furyabsolutely blew me away. This book is a major step up in every sense—character development, plot complexity, and emotional depth. It’s as if the series found its true voice and soared to new heights.
The characters, especially Feyre, are elevated to another level in this instalment. Her struggles with trauma and her journey of self-discovery felt raw and authentic. Rhysand, introduced more fully in this book, is a revelation. His character adds layers of intrigue, wit, and vulnerability, making him an instant favourite. The dynamics between the Inner Circle are fantastic too—they feel like a true found family, and their banter and loyalty brought so much heart to the story. It’s so easy to fall into the trap of believing the events of A Court of Thorns and Roses was going to be continued with a happy-ever-after for Feyre and Tamlin. But oh how wrong I was!
Where A Court of Thorns and Roses felt like a slow build, this sequel hits the ground running. The stakes are higher, the world-building is richer, and the pacing is near-perfect. The twists and turns kept me hooked, and the romance is handled with far more nuance and emotional resonance than in the first book.
If you enjoyed the ending of A Court of Thorns and Roses, you’ll love how A Court of Mist and Fury takes everything to the next level. It’s a beautifully written, action-packed, and emotionally charged sequel that makes the series worth sticking with. A must-read!
